reiki

Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing modality. It uses gentle, hands-on (or off!) touch to bring the body into a state of relaxation. Studies have found it to be more effective than placebo in stress reduction and healing. Reiki sessions are typically one hour long. Some clients report feeling heat or tingling sensations. Some feel nothing at all! You may notice breakthroughs in healing in the days following a session.

what it does for trauma

It all comes back to our nervous system. When our sympathetic nervous system, fight-or-flight, is active our bodies are preparing for war. This part of the nervous system can be overactive in trauma survivors without us even realizing it. Reiki will guide you gently into relaxation and a parasympathetic state. This is the state that allows our bodies to heal.

  • No. Some sessions are performed without any touch. I will use several hand placements throughout the hour that I remain in for several minutes. The focus is on energy healing and not physical touch.

  • Any side effects you may experience are generally mild in nature. In the days following a treatment you should drink lots of water to avoid any fatigue or headaches.

  • No! It is spiritual in nature but doesn't require religious beliefs and shouldn't be avoided due to religious belief. You will always be encouraged to maintain and seek your own spiritual path at Sanctuary of Self.
