YOGA

Plenty of studies have shown how effective yoga can be to aid in emotional healing. At Sanctuary of Self this is our primary goal.

Trauma-informed classes

In our classes, we will use breathwork, meditation and asana (physical poses) to build safety in the body. Many survivors of trauma are living in a state of fight-or-flight. This part of the nervous system serves us well when there is danger present but if there is no physical threat, we end up depleted and exhausted. Our practices will not only help you to identify if you are in this state, but also show you how to come back into balance.

  • Our Western culture has turned yoga into a workout for physical fitness, when yoga is not about that at all! Asana, or the physical poses, is such a small part of what yoga is really about. You don't need to be able to touch your toes or do a cardio workout for this to work for you. The advanced poses, while a part of some yogis practice, aren't necessary at all.

  • No! I want to teach you how to incorporate these healing practices into your life. If you don't have anything we will make it work.

  • I can come to you, you can come to me, or we can set up a virtual class. Whatever makes you feel safe and comfortable works best.
